Who are we
The Hanover Master Gardener Association is a volunteer group dedicated to helping home gardeners in Hanover County. Our mission is to support the Hanover office of Virginia Cooperative Extension by sharing environmental and horticultural knowledge. We aim to educate both our members and the community through exciting projects tailored to Hanover County’s needs.
What to expect
You will receive an email newsletter from us just once a month with information about our upcoming events, gardening tips and highlight helpful information from our website.
How we serve Hanover gardeners like you
We love helping you grow and serving our community. Here are just a few of the ways we do that:
- Answer Your Gardening Questions: We coordinate gardening-related activities in Hanover County and are available to answer your gardening questions. You can contact our help desk at 804-752-4306 or [email protected].
- Horticultural Learning Center: Our garden is a space to learn about growing various plants that thrive in Hanover County using sustainable methods. We demonstrate research-based gardening practices that you can incorporate into your home. Visit our butterfly garden at Pole Green Park and several historic gardens at Scotchtown too.
- Plant Clinics: We take our Help Desk “on the road” and set up a booth at many local events and garden centers.
- Annual Home Gardening Series: We offer a series of free classes on topics of interest to home gardeners.
- Guest Speakers: Master Gardeners are available to speak on a variety of topics to civic and professional groups.
- Gleaning Program: In 2024, thanks to collaborations with local farmers, Master Gardener Gleaners picked 6,650 lbs of raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes, and watermelons. These are delivered to food banks in the area.
- Plant Sale: We grow plants that do well in Hanover and sell them at our annual plant sale in May. We offer annuals, perennials, herbs, tomatoes, ornamentals and more.
