About Us

HMGA

Hanover Master Gardener Association is a volunteer organization. Our mission is to promote and support the Hanover office of Virginia Cooperative Extension by providing environmental and horticultural information and education to its members and to the public through approved projects that meet the need of Hanover County.

Volunteers do not get paid; not because they are

worthless but because they are PRICELESS.

What is a Master Gardener?

A Master Gardener is a volunteer with Virginia Cooperative Extension who has been trained to help the general public with their gardening questions. Each Master Gardener must take approximately 50 hours of classroom training, pass an exam and serve an internship. In order to maintain their status each Master Gardener is required to complete eight hours of continuing education and volunteer 20 hours of service per year.

Our only money raising project is our Annual Plant Sale each spring.  Most of the plants offered have been donated by our members. We also offer garden related “yard-sale” items. Several for-profit vendors join us to provide a wide variety of products available. The Plant Sale is typically held in the parking lot of the Hanover Friends Evangelical Church which is across from Lowes in Mechanicsville.  See information about the plants we have offered for sale in previous years at  From Our Gardens to Yours .

From Garden to Table – Master Gardeners are interested in fruits and veggies both growing them and eating them. We are posting some of our favorite recipes. Recipes
