Cornaceae Nyssa sylvatica

Mature Size: medium to 80 ft. in height

The Black  Gum is known for its attractive display of fall foliage. In addition, the tree is loved by bees particularly honey bees. It is a slow growing tree reaching a height of between 30 and 50 feet.

Fun facts: The solid wood of the black gum was once used to make water pipes and is one of the longest-lived hardwood species in the Eastern U.S.
