Winterberry Holly

Ilex verticillata

Mature Size:  6 to 15 feet in height, 6 to 12 feet in width

The Winterberry Shrub
is a deciduous holly native to eastern North America, thriving in moist soils and woodland edges. It loses its leaves in fall, revealing bright red berries that remain throughout winter. Male and female plants are separate, and both are required for berry production.  Birds rely on the berries as an important winter food source.
