White Oak

Quercus alba

Mature Size:  60 to 100 feet in height, 3 to 4 feet in diameter

The White Oak is a large tree with a broad crown and gray bark. Leaves have rounded lobes and develop a lustrous fall color. The tree’s acorns were historically used as food.  According to the National Wildlife Association, this tree supports over 436 caterpillar species that use it as a host.  

Fun Facts:

  • Colonists used it to build ships
  • Can live for several centuries
