Bald Cypress

Taxodium distichum

Mature Size:  50 to 120 feet in height, 3 to 6 feet in diameter

The Bald Cypress is a slow-growing deciduous conifer native to swamps and floodplains. Soft needles turn orange-brown before dropping in fall.
In wet soils, it forms distinctive root “knees.” This tree is an extremely rot-resistant wood.  Its tops provide nesting for bald eagles, herons, and egrets.

Fun Facts:

  • Sheds needles annually
  • Can live for hundreds of years
