Red Maple

Acer rubrum

Mature Size: Up to 90 feet in height and 2 ½ feet in diameter

The Red Maple is a medium-sized tree with a rounded crown that may be found in a variety of sites. The leaves are opposite and simple, with 3 to 5 lobes and coarsely toothed edges. The light creamed wood is known commercially as soft maple. It is used for furniture, woodenware, and paper pulp. The fruit and buds are a primary food source for birds, squirrels, and deer.

Fun Facts:  Red maple is a popular shade and ornamental tree with striking red fall colors.  Red maple tolerates the wildest variety of soil conditions of any North American species.
