Mature Size: 90 to 100 feet in height, 2 to 3 feet in diameter
The Loblolly Pine is a common southern shade tree that may be found in fields, sandy soils, or borders of swamps. This pine tree provides habitat for a wide array of wildlife, including pine warblers, deer, squirrels, quail, and turkeys.
Fun Facts:
- The loblolly pine is the most important commercial timber tree in Virginia and the Southeast.
- The tree “loblolly” was named after a seafarer’s gruel, which resembled the dark soil where it grows.
