The Loblolly Pine is a common southern shade tree that may be found in fields, sandy soils, or borders of swamps. This pine tree provides a habitat for a wide array of wildlife, including the pine warbler, deer, squirrels, quail, and turkey. Large loblolly pines also serve as a common nesting site for ospreys and bald eagles.

Fun Facts:  Did you know the loblolly pine is the most important commercial timber tree in Virginia and the southeast?  The tree “loblolly” was named after a seafarer’s gruel, which resembled the dark soil where it grows.
